I had a sex summit so you don't have to
A couple of weeks ago, I wrote a piece for the Indy entitled “Why you need a monthly meeting about your sex life”. The column itself is behind the paywall but I’m going to share some of it with you here because there are things I’d like to expand on. As I’ve said before, I don’t love mining my personal life for content and this was one that felt particularly personal so I kept it very generic. But it raised some interesting questions for me which I wanted to share with you. And I think it’s fair to say there is a very big difference between documenting extremely personal details about my sex life in a national newspaper and sharing anecdotes with you via this newsletter. There’s a genuine connection and a trust you build up, I think, when you’re writing for an audience who have actively opted in to your work; a trust that it will be received in good faith, that it will be interpreted with generosity, not unkindness.
