Your last chance to get on board with BAD SEX
My dearest, most esteemed Overthinkers...
...we only bloody DID IT!! Yep, that’s right, the podcast crowdfunder has hit its target of £5k which means BAD SEX is coming your way. It is officially happening.
Thank you so much to everyone who's donated. I am so excited to have you on board and I can't wait to get cracking. But wait! If you haven’t donated, there’s still a chance to be part of the BAD SEX gang (ohmygosh I’ve just remembered, this means I need to place the merch order!)
I have a stretch goal of £8,000 - the deadline is 10:30 tomorrow morning. So if you want to get involved, you still can but now is your last chance! All supporters get early access to the podcast, there’s also the chance to get your name listed in the supporter credits on the podcast itself, a special exclusive bonus episode and, of course, all the aforementioned merch. We’re talking stickers, we’re talking badges, we’re talking tote bags!

The aim of this stretch goal is, largely, to allow me to dedicate more time and energy to the podcast. At the minute I stand to make £350 an episode which means this is still very much something I'm doing alongside all my other work. But with more of a budget I'll be able to dedicate more time to it which means it will get done quicker!!
I'll also be able to get an editor on board for more hours than I currently have budgeted for which would be fantastic. And if I hit £8k I'll be able to get someone to help with marketing once it's done which... flippin' heck is that the dream or what??!
Look, obviously it’s not the end of the world if we don’t hit that target but trust me when I say nothing you donate is going to be wasted. So if you have any extra spare cash (maybe you just got paid?!) and you'd like to pop a bit more in the pot to help get things going please do! The sooner I can start work on it, the better.
But either way I'm delighted to say that that BAD SEX is getting made!

What’s on my mind this week…
Bread
This last week of crowdfunding has been pretty crazy and all I’ve been able to think about is how much I can’t wait to get to the weekend and bake some bread! I think it’s the fact that this whole process has been so extremely online and I just want to clock off and get my fingers sticky, you know?
Lame euphemisms aside, fund-raising is a trip and it’s fair to say I am exhausted so I’m going to take a little break from the newsletter while I recalibrate. I leave you with a bunch of links of other sexy, overthinky things to read and I’ll talk to you again soon!
A couple more things to (over)think about…
Obviously I have a lot of reservations about the way the Mail frames sex but I’m happy to see Tracy Cox talking about low sex drive in a way that involves the option of… simply being OK with it
I absolutely loved Annie Lord’s piece on why it’s so hard to say what you want in bed
There’s an interesting feature here about asexuality. Again, very cool to see NOT having sex talked about in a sex positive way
The brilliant Nicola Slawson (of The Single Supplement newsletter) has written on the impact of the pandemic on single people
Love this “in pictures” story on the history of black queer Britain
Apparently this sextech company thinks there’s going to be a VR sex boom after the pandemic which… not if ticket sales for London’s summer sex parties are anything to go by (I just heard of four or five different ones which are already sold out for July)
Interesting feature in Slate on the notion of “sex addiction,” hooked to the recent murders in Atlanta by a man who claimed to be a “sex addict”. Sex and relationships therapist Silva Neves also wrote about the subject this week on his Psychology Today blog
This interview with the author of a new book about straight men who have sex with men is quite intruiging
